State directory
NVLAP laboratory accreditation is national. Contractor licensing is state (and sometimes city) work. Live contractor pages are built from that jurisdiction’s official list, not from business directories or ads.
- How to search NVLAP — official NIST search; 0 rows transcribed (directory requires JavaScript) Live (search)
- Kansas licensed contractors — 77 licensed asbestos contractors from KDHE’s August 2026 PDF (21 with a Kansas city on the list; others are out-of-state firms licensed to work in Kansas) Live
- Pennsylvania certified companies — 284 certified abatement companies from L&I’s list revised 27 August 2026 Live
- Alabama through Wyoming (except the live pages above) Coming soon
How other states will be added
EPA: state agencies have the most up-to-date listings of accredited asbestos professionals. We will not publish a contractor page until we can transcribe a current official list (or honestly say what we could not verify). A PDF roster from a state labor, health, or environmental agency is preferred.
See When to test vs. when to hire, methodology, and README.
National context
NIST NVLAP accredits labs for Asbestos Fiber Analysis (PLM and/or TEM). AHERA requires that accreditation for laboratories that analyze samples from K–12 schools. Homeowners should still use an NVLAP-accredited lab rather than an unsourced kit. EPA’s homeowner page (updated 25 June 2026) is the federal starting point for leave / repair / remove decisions.
