About Septic Pump Index
A U.S. directory for homeowners who need a licensed septic pumper or inspector. We publish official county and state lists and EPA/extension how-to. We do not invent records.
What we are
Septic Pump Index helps you find a pumper or inspector a government list actually names — then understand pumping frequency, sale-time inspection, and failure signs from EPA and university extension. It is not a government website, not a hauler, and not a real-estate inspector.
Methodology
- Listing rows are transcribed from official county or state PDFs or agency pages we fetched. Each JSON record carries a
source_urland document date. - If a field is not on the source (DEP transporter number, DNR license number, Ohio bond, prices, which towns they serve), we write unknown or omit it and link the official tool.
- We do not copy phone numbers from Google or marketplace sites. We do not “enrich” records.
- We do not rank “best septic company.” Sort order is the source’s order or alphabetic as printed.
- Guidance pages quote or closely paraphrase EPA and Penn State Extension, with page dates. We skipped stale dollar figures from older EPA brochures.
- A source that is years out of date is logged and not presented as a current roster. Example: Wisconsin DNR SeptageBusinessList.pdf footer “Report run on: 6/30/2023.”
How to add a county: see README.md. What we fetched: SOURCES.md.
Commission disclosure
Septic Pump Index is intended to become an income site. In later versions we may earn a commission if you hire a service or buy a related product through a link. This first version has no live affiliate links, no click-to-call numbers, and no paid placements. County listings are not advertisements. Appearance on an official list is not an endorsement by the agency or by us.
If we add affiliate links later, they will be labeled on the page where they appear, and a commission will not decide which company is listed.
Contact
This static first version does not yet publish an editorial email on the public pages; methodology questions belong in the repository documentation until a contact form is added.
