Continuous radon monitor option

Sun Radon lüft (LUFT) plug-in monitor

A continuous monitor shows radon readings over time instead of the single result a one-time short-term kit gives you. According to Sun Radon’s product page, the lüft plugs into a standard wall outlet (no batteries), measures radon along with VOCs, eCO₂, temperature, pressure, and humidity, connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and shows readings, trend charts, and alerts in its iOS and Android apps. Like any consumer monitor, treat it as screening and trend watching, not a substitute for a certified test when a sale, lender, or post-mitigation check requires one.

How to use this directory: what to check before you test or hire

Test first. EPA says a test kit can come from a home improvement store or online seller, from the discounted kits offered by the National Radon Program Services at Kansas State University, or through your state radon program. Some states give kits away free or at a discount. Follow the kit's directions on placement and where to send it (EPA, Find a Radon Test Kit or Measurement and Mitigation Professional).

Read the number against EPA's action level. EPA's risk tables say to fix the home at 4 pCi/L or more and to consider fixing between 2 and 4 pCi/L. EPA estimates radon causes about 21,000 lung cancer deaths a year in the U.S. and is the leading cause of lung cancer among people who have never smoked (EPA, Health Risk of Radon).

Hire from a credentialed list. EPA tells homeowners to contact their state radon program to find qualified professionals. States that receive EPA indoor radon grants must list only providers credentialed by a state process (such as a state license) or by one of the two national programs EPA recognizes, NRPP and NRSB. Each state page below says which of those applies, and links the official list. Before you sign, confirm the person's credential with the issuer yourself.
