Kentucky Board of Radon Safety
Kentucky radon (air)
No public board roster to republish. Updated 2026-09-10 (US/Pacific).
If you are not sure you need a pro yet, see when a DIY radon test kit is enough or how to test a home for radon.
The Kentucky Board of Radon Safety site (radon.ky.gov) does not publish a downloadable statewide list of radon measurement or mitigation businesses for republication. This page does not invent company names, phones, licenses, or addresses to fill that gap.
Board Quick Links point homeowners to national directories instead: NRPP Find a Pro and NRSB Find a Pro (the board page has labeled the NRSB link “NRSP”; the destination is NRSB). Filter by measurement vs. mitigation, then re-check the credential before hiring.
KRS 309.434 says the board shall maintain a public list of certified persons or business entities registered by the board. As of 2026-09-10 that list is not exposed on the website as a page or PDF this index can copy. Contact the board to verify a registrant.
What homeowners can do
- Paid radon measurement, mitigation, or laboratory analysis in Kentucky requires certification through NRPP or NRSB. That rule has been in effect since June 2019 (board Statutory Requirements Notification).
- Radon is a radioactive gas from uranium in soil and rock. You cannot see or smell it — testing indoor air is the only way to know a building’s level. This page covers indoor air, not well water.
- EPA’s long-term action level remains 4 pCi/L.
- Look up residential measurement or mitigation providers through NRPP or NRSB (the same Find a Pro links the board publishes). Always re-check the credential before hiring.
- Questions or to verify a registrant: Kentucky Board of Radon Safety, Public Protection Cabinet / Department of Professional Licensing. Phone 502-782-2782; fax 502-564-4818; Radon@ky.gov. Mailing: P.O. Box 1360, Frankfort, KY 40602. Physical: 500 Mero St, Frankfort, KY 40601.
- Optional geology context (not a substitute for a home test): UK Kentucky Geological Survey — Radon in Kentucky and UK BREATHE radon (both linked from the board).
