Well Labs Index

A U.S. directory for private well owners. Test first. Treat second.

Georgia labs

Two paths are independently verified for private wells: (1) UGA Agricultural and Environmental Services Laboratories (AESL) private-well chemical testing — including the DPH-recommended W33C Private Well Chemical Test — submitted through your county UGA Cooperative Extension office; (2) annual bacterial testing that DPH says may be available through your local County Environmental Health office. The table below lists 14 in-state laboratories from Georgia EPD’s January 9, 2025 commercial microbiology and chemical certification PDFs. Commercial private-well acceptance is unknown except for UGA AESL — call before you collect water.

What we could and could not verify

Verified for private well owners

UGA AESL — Private Well Chemical Test (W33C) via Extension

Start with your local UGA Cooperative Extension office or AESL water pages: AESL Water Analyses · Feed and Environmental Water Laboratory: (706) 542-5350 · 2300 College Station Road, Athens, GA 30602

DPH (retrieved 12 September 2026) recommends a bacterial test annually and a chemical screening about every three years. The W33C Private Well Chemical Test (includes arsenic and lead) is available through county Extension offices. AESL also publishes other homeowner water forms (including microbiological tests and home-loan closing profiles) — get bottles and instructions from Extension before you collect. Confirm current fees and turnaround with your county office. Prices intentionally omitted from this directory.

County Environmental Health — bacterial testing when offered

DPH states annual total coliform / fecal coliform testing may be available through your local County Environmental Health office. Services and fees vary by county — call first. Directory: DPH Environmental Health contacts.

In-state commercial laboratories on EPD certification lists

Call to confirm they still hold certification for the tests you need, that they will take your private-well sample, and how to ship or drop off. 1 of 14 rows is independently verified for private-well acceptance (UGA AESL via Extension). Out-of-state labs omitted.
