Mississippi labs
Two paths are independently verified for private well owners through the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH): (1) Private Well Water Testing — MSDH tests private wells for bacteriological contamination only (minerals, chemicals, or other contaminants go through a private laboratory); (2) Apply online for private well water sampling — the Division of On-site Wastewater takes a sample from a single private well for bacteriological testing. The table below lists 6 laboratories named on MSDH’s Water Supply Certification: In-State Participating Labs page (last reviewed Feb 14, 2025; retrieved 26 September 2026). Private-well acceptance is not stated per row. Call before you collect water.

Apply online — Private Well Sample
Online application (Private Well Sample)
The Department will take a sample of the water from your well and test it for bacteriological contamination. The application is for a single well. The form states that minerals, chemicals, or other contaminants require a private lab and links to the In-State Participating Labs list. The Division of On-site Wastewater will not take water samples for homes connected to public water systems — contact the Bureau of Public Water Supply for public-system concerns.
In-state participating laboratories (MSDH Water Supply Certification)
