The table below lists 17 laboratories from Vermont DEC’s official Certified Laboratories for Landowner Water Quality Testing table (retrieved 24 September 2026) that DEC presents for private well / landowner water-quality testing. Addresses for matching rows are taken from the VDH Laboratories Certified for Drinking Water Analysis PDF (June 11, 2026; PDF note: laboratories highlighted in green accept private samples). VDH Laboratory also appears on both official lists and is covered in the verified section above (not duplicated in the commercial table). Call before you collect water.

The Health Department recommends testing private well or spring water with the Homeowner Testing Package every five years, and for bacteria every year (bacteria, inorganic chemicals, and gross alpha radiation). Order by webstore, phone, mail, or fax using the drinking water and radon test kit order form. Drop off samples in-person at the Lab (Monday–Thursday 7:45 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; Fridays 7:45 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; closed state holidays), at participating Offices of Local Health, or mail/ship within the hold times in your kit instructions (some tests require cold samples and arrival within 22 hours).
Schedule note (retrieved 24 September 2026): State offices will not accept drinking water samples for courier pickup on Thursday, October 8, Friday, October 9, or Monday, October 12. The Lab will be closed Friday, October 9 (Professional Development Day) and Monday, October 12 (Indigenous Peoples’ Day).
