Ohio labs
One laboratory is independently verified to take private-well samples: Mahoning County Board of Health (listed that way on Ohio EPA’s list; the county health department’s own page says it tests private drinking-water systems). The other rows are Ohio commercial, independent, or local-health-department laboratories transcribed from Ohio EPA’s Combined Lab List dated August 2026, rev. 8/13/2026. We have not verified that those labs currently accept private-well samples. Call before you collect water.
What we could and could not verify
- Ohio EPA does not regulate or test private wells. It certifies laboratories for public drinking water and points homeowners to this list, then to the local health department. Source: Ohio EPA FAQ, updated 2 September 2025.
- The Combined Lab List is titled for analyses on public drinking water. Appearance on it is not an endorsement and is not a statement that the lab takes homeowner samples. Ohio EPA: other laboratories may hold acceptance and may not appear (no commercial services, pending applications). Questions: dwlabcert@epa.ohio.gov or 614-644-2752.
- Municipal water-treatment-plant, water-department, water-works, water-resources, sanitary-engineering, and water-company laboratories were omitted. The list does not say those plants take homeowner samples.
- Out-of-state laboratories on the same PDF (mostly PFAS, radiochemistry, Cryptosporidium, asbestos) were not tabulated. They remain on the official file.
- Nitrate is marked Yes when the PDF lists Standard Chemistry (the legend includes Nitrate) or lists Nitrate/Nitrite by name. Trace metals are marked Yes when the PDF lists Trace Metals (legend includes arsenic, lead, manganese, and others). The PDF says to contact the lab for the analyses offered.
