Two paths are independently verified for private well owners through the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) Division of Laboratory Services: (1) Environmental Microbiology accepts samples from private wells for Total Coliform / E. coli and provides sterile bottles with forms; (2) the Chemistry Laboratory lists private wells among typical sample sources for environmental / drinking-water chemistry — confirm parameters and bottle orders before you collect. The table below lists 10 in-state commercial / independent / university laboratories from TDEC’s Commercial Laboratories Certified for Drinking Water Analysis PDF dated 03/17/2026. Military / federal plant labs and all out-of-state labs are omitted. Call before you collect water.
